Kick Off the School Year with the OU Food Pantry!

Meet the New Team!

The OU Food Pantry welcomed our largest team ever this month with a grand total of…80 members!

Now that summer break has come to a close and we are kicking off the school year, the OU Food Pantry is officially open for business with new hours! We are open from 8am-6pm on Tuesdays and 10am-6pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Our new team is working hard and served over 550 households in our first week back!

Meet the brand new executive team for 2023!

Red River Food Fight

It is with great pleasure that we announce the first annual Red River Food Fight: a month-long food drive competition between the UT Outpost and the OU Food Pantry. Starting on Friday, September 1st, our pantries will be collecting all donated, shelf-stable food items to be counted towards our individual schools’ tallies. Ending on Saturday, September 30th, the school with the most food items by total weight will be announced as the Red River Food Fight Champion on the day of the Red River Rivalry football game (Saturday, October 7th). If you want to help contribute to OU’s donation total, you can click the button below to donate to our Amazon wish list and have your donation delivered straight to the pantry! We also will be accepting donations in person all the way through the day of the game on September 30th, so don’t hesitate to stop by with donations if you are in the Norman area.

Our Newest Team

The Food Pantry’s brand new team, Health and Advocacy, is aimed at supporting the complete mental and physical well-being of the pantry’s clients. The new team will work to connect clients to on and off-campus resource groups, host health drives and initiatives at the pantry, and write policy on health advocacy, among other initiatives.

The Health and Advocacy team had a great first week at the pantry introducing themselves and connecting clients to outside resources! They plan to hold a free kidney health screening next month and are working on building a health bulletin to provide clients with health tips, inform them of ongoing health events in the community, and educate them on legislation that may affect them!

Looking Forward

The OU Food Pantry will be hosting our second annual Fall Family Weekend open house at the pantry before the Iowa State game on September 30th. Stop by for free food and drinks and the chance to win an awesome raffle (check in on our socials for details)! Raffle tickets will be sold in person at the event, but we will also be accepting shelf stable food items as entries since this will be the last day of the Red River Food Fight!
